Musings

Temple

Just sixteen and he becomes a member of a band as guitarist (junior of course). Live show and there is his pehli kamai (first income) on his hand.
Everybody is pleasantly surprised. He was learning guitar on his own by taking lessons mainly from internet and it was just a timepass kind of thing. No one had ever expected him to play let alone perform on the stage.

His mother wants him to offer a part of the earnings to temple.
“Yes” he nods.

Next morning she wakes him to accompany her to the temple.

“I have already donated full money” .

“Where, when ?”.

“Ma, I bought some good books and donated to my school library, wahi mera mandir hai (school is my temple)”.

Sure dude, well said.

I am glad to have such individuals around me. :-)

And this song is for the big boy of sixteen.

Current song- Master of Puppets – Metallica

My guess is that this is not what his mother had in mind. I had a separation from my parents’ faith practices when I was around that age, but eventually became a “born again” Christian.

great ! I did the same with my first salary. Parents wanted to me keep some money aside to put in the hundi of tirupathi Balaji when I visit India, well I thought it could be better used by a charity than God. Believe me people are still beautiful :)

    Hmm,
It made me remember about my first salary…And the luck is that I got my first salary on the day of my parents anniversary..
I gift it to them..it was a great feeling for all of us..

This strikes a chord (sorry), my 16yr old son plays lead guitar in his band and they perform all over the island. If my son told me he had donated his fees, I’m afraid I would want to see the proof of it.. but that is just the cynical mother in me (smile).

A wonderful tale cuckoo, very uplifting.

Our greatest achievements are those which dwarf some of our own great achievements, isn’t it? Being a part of a band at sixteen, performing live shows and learning the Guitar over the internet–all of these significant achievements by themselves and yet, that isn’t what we are talking about!!

    Shrinky,
Thank you. Well, here in India we somehow are still great to have an emotional bond with all our firsts and to do such things. Knowing him, I think it was not a big surprise for us.

Oh Gosh ! you are absolutely right ! When you said that, I realized even other things are no less achievements. We were taking them for granted…. at least some of them.

I don’t remember seeing that ‘Place Your Ad Here’ sign earlier…cool… Ha Ha Ha… That was the first day I had put it there. Earlier when blogging was free with blogger, I was offered some ads to put on my site and I never wanted them on my site.
Now that I am paying for my domain, I have been coaxed to see if I still get something. :D
