Absolutely Shocking !
This is absolutely horrid & shocking. There could be many reasons, many pros & cons; whatever & however we try, condolences or sympathies can never bring back Aditya again.
His parents urge all to join the online petition asking Jet Airways to probe the incident and ensure that no other parent goes through the same trauma.

I had read this couple of weeks ago.
It was truly sad to hear about such a lil baby who had just started his life had to go this way.
However I’m not too certain if it was airlines fault completely in this matter. I had read the website made by the father and he did say that a doctor on board was immediately called.
Somehow not being assigned a bassinet seat cannot be the reason for the child dying. What can be more safer and comfortable for a baby but for this mother’s lap?
I agree there could have been lapses after the arrival and the airlines should definitely be pulled up for that. For not being as compassionate to the parents who had just lost their child.

absolutely shocking!! We Indians must start using consumer’s rights protection act and sue such irresponsible corporates; so they are more careful in future.

It is entirely possible that this was one-off kind of unfortunate incident. But even then, it goes beyond just the airline. If what the stewardess mentioned is true and public knowledge, then there should be a larger study, because it will affect each and every airline. (From the website, I think even the parents know that there was no blame to be placed on the airline in this case, and they are rightly pushing for a general investigation to determine the cause).

Anoop,
Yeah, shocking indeed. We just hope that an independent probe takes place.
Aditya’s dad,
We are all with you in this hour of grievance. I thought it was my duty to spread the word.

NM,
Sorry to say I wasn’t aware of it till a request came for taking it up on blogbharti where I am a member. I thought it was my duty to put it on my blog as well.
However I’m not too certain if it was airlines fault completely in this matter… That is why I wrote .. many pros & cons…;
Well, no one can say anything for sure. When the on board doctor came to the scene, he was not too hopeful… meaning could be the child had already breathed his last.
As you have mentioned, the bassinet thing can not be the only reason but it would have triggered something else.
The only reason I can make out is a combination of two things.
First, fall in oxygen level which others also felt.
Second, when the lady came back to her allotted seat to sit next to the child’s mother, who was till then comfortably feeding her kid must have felt uncomfortable in front of a stranger and as many (almost all) ladies do, covered the face of her son which resulted in further lack of breathing air to the child. This is entirely my thinking after reading all posts on that blog.

Abhijit,
Yeah, I fully agree with you.
Amey,
Yes, very true. It starts & triggers many things and angles.
First I think, unless it is very important, the parents should avoid taking such a long journey with that small kid. Traveling from US to India is as it is quite difficult for adults, let alone an infant of 5 months who can not even express what he is feeling.
I can understand how they feel. It is a heart rending feeling if your own kid dies in your arms without giving you a even second’s chance to think or react. And I honestly hope that an independent inquiry happens in this case.
One precious child is gone, let us try to save others.
Fall in temperature & oxygen level might have played a major role in this case.
See my reply to NM above, I have mentioned a reason what I feel would have happened.
FYI, Feeding baby of that age is the most commonly told while flying. Slightly older children are asked to eat something like biscuits and adults like us are advised to go for chewing gum to avoid ear blockage etc.

Shocking indeed!
If there was any neglect on the part of the Airlines, I feel the Airlines should be sued.

For one, I think that lady who insisted on sitting next to Aditya’s Mom is partially responsible. I cannot understand how any reasonable person cannot accomodate for a Mom with a baby. I seriously believe, if it was not for her, the baby might have been alive today.

Shivanand,
The agonized parents are trying their best.
Deepa,
Welcome to my blog. I guess you are coming from Aditya’s blog.
Well, we can’t say it for sure. As I said earlier (see my reply to NM & Amey above), it could be one of the triggers.
If the lady was non-Indian then she may not have thought it as a problem to give so much of privacy to the mother-child.
Or maybe she had kept her cabin luggage there and at the time of landing wanted to be close to that. A first-time flyer ?
Well, I am too perplexed to think.
