Blogging, a tricky affair ? Part-IV
Contents & originality
Be original and put your stamp. Write what YOU want to write and not what others are writing. Do not write a serious or funny post just because someone else has also done so. Work on quality and originality of posts. Originality not only in textual context but the way you put it across.
Of course, your thoughts are generated after you saw some incidents on TV or read in newspapers and you think on the same lines as I or hundreds of others do, but give your own language and style to your thoughts. That’s your originality.
This is something similar to writing an essay in exam or writing movie reviews. Same topic but different perceptions, different tone.
Choose a language, a tone but write in your own voice, in your own way.
Here again I’ll cite my example. I wrote Crime & Punishment based on someone’s narration of certain facts as a third person where the narrator was not a part of it. But I gave it my perception without changing the facts. I got into the shoes of that girl and wrote what she must have felt.
The story was still almost true (95%) and touched the chord so much so that it broke all previous records of unknown people writing to me sympathetic mails. Some of my readers started consoling me, hugging me as if I was the protagonist and were very angry with the male character in it.
Read this story if you have not done so. The language came straight from the heart.
I think I have a very common but distinct style of writing a post and anyone who has been reading me for some months can easily differentiate my posts from others. The style was not developed purposely, it is inherent to me. I always try to get into a character so to feel the same emotions. You can have your own style of writing.
So, the gist is to be yourself. Your posts should reflect your character in some way whether you are a funny person, an idealistic, a foodie or otherwise.
Question for today – Do you like reading this series ? Not that I’ll listen to you. ![]()
Do you have any other inputs for these posts such as frequency, length of the posts ? Are you Ok with the current arrangement ?
I think the frequency should be at least twice a week but my hand is not helping me. ![]()
The other posts ?? They are my half baked posts lying in drafts.

Well, I must say, I agree with you whole heartedly on this point. One has to be original ans distinct from the crowd. There should be a belief n conviction in what one writes. I might something about as mundane as my visit to the market to get some chicken and stuff I did on the way. But, it should be me. Another, which I have been told is, it helps if the writer’s true self does the talking on the blog with the reader (emphasis on singular). It helps if things flow more as a conversation, a one-to-one talk rather just a write up which people read. Its about involving the reader with what you are writing.
