Nostalgic Moments - I

Nursery rhymes or children’s songs that make you nostalgic and take you back to years when you were a cute little girl, wore a pink frock full of laces and frills, had millions of questions enough to embarrass elders, performed on stage, forgot a few actions and without hesitating shouted right from there “Mommyyyyy, iske baad kya tha (what was the next line) ? ” .. .. phew !

Yes, today’s post is of being nostalgic about those treasured moments, those little details and some of those songs which are liked for some reason or the other.

Chun chun kerti aayi chidiya – Why does she remember it ? A father used to sing it for his doting daughter, for his little birdie and she would run into arms of her ideal idol, her father. And when she would walk, it would be all music around her. Her giggles, her talks, her nakhras.. .. everything. :D

Jungle Jungle phool khila hai pata chala hai
Chaddhi pehen ke phool khila hai
– She and her sister were fond of watching this song on TV and used to sing at top of their voices jumping on the sofa.  Somethings never change. She still does it. :D No, not the jumping part.

One off track here.. .. both jumping.. ..
Little sister - Chaddhi kya hota hai ? (What is a chaddhi (panty) ?)
Jumping breathlessly, lifting her sister’s frock and pointing to chaddhi , “isko kehte hain chaddhi”. (This is called chaddhi).

Nanha Munna Rahi huN – She had this big argument when she was asked to perform this song on a 15th August function. It was her first performance on stage and her mood was totally off. Muh fula ke gayi thi stage par. There were two reasons.
First, she had to dress like a boy which she hated. Second, she wasn’t allowed to sing it as ‘Nanhi munni rahi hu’. However hard the elders tried, she insisted that the song was wrong. Boys should sing ‘nanha munna raha huN’ and the girls ‘Nanhi munni.. ’.  Being a logical girl, she wanted to have her own lines.
Well, I think she was quite right.

Ek chidiya Anek chidiyaan – One of her favourites, because of the pronunciation and the way it is sung. More so because it was again about a chidiya (bird). The little girl didn’t quite know how to sing like that so she gave it a nasal effect by closing one of her nostrils in a funny way. Also, it was this song which taught her the meaning of anek.

One off track again ..
Once she was at some friend’s place and his dadi (paternal grandmother) said something like ‘sat jata hai (सट जाता है )’.
Instant query with her shrill voice, “kya ho jata hai ?”.
Boy – “Jab dadi boltiN haiN sat jata hai, tab samjho chipak jata hai”.

Johnny Johnny yes papa – She had changed the lines to ‘Johnny Johnny yes daddy’ because her father was daddy to her and not papa. Apna dimaag lagana zaruri tha na. :P
Do you remember she even tried to change her surname to her mother’s since it was short and simple ?
She liked to write her own lines, she still does. :)

To be contd for Part II… .. ..

P.S.- I am yet to touch my base and am still away. All these posts in last 20 days are scheduled ones. I come online for a few minutes once in 3-4 days only to moderate comments. Kindly bear with me. Thanks.

Amazing post Cuckoo. I dont know how I can thank you for helping me revive some similar special moments from my life. If I start putting down the instances that flashed in my mind while reading your post, this comment will turn out into a post. So I am restricting myself. however, I can only say(and I guess all readers here will agree)..”those were the best days of my life”.
