Nostalgic Moments - III
You can read here Part I and Part II of this story for better continuation or just for the heck of it !!
—————
Instead of ‘gudiya’ (doll) she was ‘chidiya’ (bird). And these days people call her Masakalli.
She was not mischievous. Quiet but very observant and always full of questions and arguments. Gussa to jaise naak par rehta tha. But she was cool and sophisticated as well. Was very fond of sports. And always stood first in class. Never tried, it just happened.
Speaking of Masakalli reminds me of this video. Have you seen it ?
She did turn heads with all her innocent, intelligent talks. She liked girly things being feminine but hated playing with girls. According to her, they were all dumb.
But boys were no different. They will always be boys. Everyday there was a scene to watch as they fought for her.
(Note the authority in each case)
Boy1- Hey, she is going to be in my team
Boy2- Nahi, wo meri girlfriend hai
Boy3- Nahi, main bada hoke usse shadi karne wala hu.
Boy4- But she studies in my class
Yadda yadda yadda ..
And she, holding a cute puppy, bouncing her hair, coolly goes off to enjoy the slides .. leaving behind a scene of battle. Let them fight, let them waste their energy, let them wait and let them beg.
She and her puppy finish slide & rides and then she would choose whom to play with… .. .. irrespective of the winner.
Le Papa du Papa – This is a very catchy French song for children sung by Boby Lapointe and is one of my favourites.
She distinctly remembers two punjabi brothers…. one her classmate and the other two years senior. Younger one was mischievous and ladla, older a little serious but no less adorable. Once there was a serious tussle between the two. Reason ? Who would marry that petite princess.
It had started with who can have her in his team and within minutes ended up in a family feud !!
And what was she doing all this while ?
Watching them with a visible frown on her head, rolling her eyes from left to right as if watching a tennis match, listening to their evergreen idiotic reasonings and .. ..
enjoying her bhutta.
Lakdi Ki Kaathi – Do I have to say anything about this song ? I exactly remember the expressions, actions and the dance steps. One of the best children’ songs of all time.
To be contd for Part IV… .. ..

Cuckoo,
This series of posts on Nostalgia have always brought a smile on my face every time I read them. However, today brought about a sad sense of nostalgia when I heard of Michael Jackson’s death. His music and dancing takes me back to some very fond memories of my childhood and youth. It is something I (and I bet millions of our generation) grew up on. RIP Michael.

Abhi,
Thanks for reading these posts and enjoying them.
Yes, Michael Jackson’s death was a tragic end but I am sure he’ll moonwalk in our memories forever.
