The other side of Great Wall

Last Sunday, despite my tight schedule, I made it a point to visit Mahim, Tulsi pipe road where a 2 day Wall project was happening in Mumbai. In case you are not aware of, the project was scheduled for 15th and 16th August, 2009 to commemorate our Independence day.

The project is brainchild of some enthusiasts who could not see this wall (from Mahim to Dadar running along the western railway line in Mumbai) becoming an open urinal & a place for paan spitting. They approached BMC and offered their services to paint this stretch.

BMC agreed,  provided Read the rest of this entry »

Independence Day - through her eyes

Today, 15th August is our Independence Day. This day will always hold a very special place in my life for myriad reasons. Being born and brought up in the capital city of India, I have been witness to Republic Day parades and Independence Day speeches since my childhood. Sometimes live and other times on TV.
The Rajpath, India Gate, Vijay Chowk, Red Fort, the parades, unfurling of national flag and singing of national anthem.. they always evoke a powerful sense of belonging. They all look like part of my life, a part of my very own place.

Prime Minister standing behind the bulletproof glass protection unfurls the national flag and makes the customary address from the ramparts of the Red Fort. His/her long speeches once again make the customary references and tributes to the nation’s farmers, workers, teachers and the defense personnel and announce the various development schemes.
Oh, my post is not about these annual rituals happening at a national level.

Happy Birthday !!!

Hi,
So, how have you been ? Yes, Yes I know I was again missing from this place. Nothing new. Right ?
But I remembered you every single day.
I have just managed to peek in here to tell you something.

Ohh thank you.. thank you.. for all your good wishes. :D

My supermom Cuckoo is very busy and feeling guilty for not feeding me on time. See, how weak I have become. :(
Anyway, she is hosting a party for me. You know what ?? I just stole a drink and now I am.. .. hic.. hic.. hic… ummm tastes good. :P

All uncles and aunts, especially the ones whom I met after my last birthday.. Both Alok M & P uncles (its confusing for my little brain, don’t know how mom keeps track), Shekhar uncle, Tarun uncle, Sandeip, Shivanand & Ankur uncles, NM, Celine & Pooja aunts, Prax, Amol, … oh there are so many. I am forgetting their names. And one special friend.. .. NM aunt’s son Anirudh (he is my best friend, only that he doesn’t know it).
I welcome you all and all my older uncles & aunts including those who admire me from a distance & never even say Hello (Beast uncle, are you listening ?) , to join me in party.

Have you brought gifts for me ?? No ?? Then you are not allowed. :P See here how I like to have my gifts from you all & how last year we all celebrated it together. (If you have time, read this post including the comments, some ppl surely had fun there).

What my mom is doing right now ??
She is taking care of the gifts someone has just given to my youngest sister. Oh yes, I forgot to tell you. In this last one year my mom has given birth to one more child, again a beautiful kid sister to me. Someone please tell her it is enough now.
Ok, I am going. Wish me good luck and a very happy & healthy life ahead and I do hope to have your company along… .. Bye bye.

16th April

16th April.
Last year on this day I had wished someone for the exams. Promptly a reply had come saying “Kya ladki hai ! Thanks, I’ll put in my best today but ab wish mat karna, nahi to saare papers mein padhna padega !”. (Don’t wish anymore else I’ll have to study for all the exams) .  :D
And that turned out to be the stepping stone of our friendship.

Not that we had not spoken earlier but after this day our friendship took a different high.
Somewhere amidst a mixed bag of contrasts, Read the rest of this entry »

Republic Day

Today morning, fortunately there was an agreement to flip TV channels only between two .. the ongoing India-Aus cricket match and the direct telecast of Republic Day celebrations and we enjoyed both. Today again it was a day to be nostalgic.
I don’t know about other Indians but having spent most of my life in Delhi, I have been witness to Republic Day parades and Independence Day speeches since my childhood. Live and telecast both. And they always hold a very special place in my life for many reasons.

The Rajpath, India Gate, Vijay Chowk, the parades, the jhaanki, the chilly foggy weather, unfurling of national flag, singing of national anthem and the fly past.. they all look part of my life, a part of my very own place. Today also I felt the same emotions and sense of pride running through my veins which I used to feel when I was a little girl and today again I wanted to be in Delhi !!

Won’t write much here. If anybody wants to know how I feel about these days, it’s here, a very nostalgic post written by me.

YOU ROCK !!!

Today on January 1st 2007, I am going to tell you about some of my dear friends who have given me immense love and confidence and have made me feel blessed. I have shared some of my thoughts with them. I find it pretty amazing. I don’t know much about them but feel very much connected with them. I don’t know these people by their faces but I know these people. I may never meet them in my life but somehow I have met them all.

They are from all over the world. They all are my blogger friends. Yes, I mean YOU !!! You all !!

Before I tell you something more, let me begin with the beginning. As you all might know, I started blogging in July this year. Why ?? Don’t ask me now.

And it was in August when I was blogrolled for the first time. Fleiger, was the first person to blogroll me (I still wonder Read the rest of this entry »
