Nostalgic Moments - IV

Contd from Part - III

You can read here Part I, Part II and Part-III of this story.

Secured cantonment area, big bungalows, charoN taraf bade bade ped, summer time and horde of friends to play with. What else does a 5-6 year old want ?

Have you ever sat on top of a tent and slid down ? Continuously for hours ? Or collected feathers of peacocks chasing them down ? Named all the monkeys of your neighbourhood after film stars ?
Stolen a feeding bottle of a younger cousin and shot jets of salted water on poor earthworms and even more poorer snails to see them going under cover ?

Oh dear, Barbie dolls and cartoon networks just can not match that outdoor fun.

Nostalgic Moments - I

Nursery rhymes or children’s songs that make you nostalgic and take you back to years when you were a cute little girl, wore a pink frock full of laces and frills, had millions of questions enough to embarrass elders, performed on stage, forgot a few actions and without hesitating shouted right from there “Mommyyyyy, iske baad kya tha (what was the next line) ? ” .. .. phew !

Yes, today’s post is of being nostalgic about those treasured moments, those little details and Read the rest of this entry »

That was Indu

She lived in my neighbourhood. She was also my classmate. A short stature, thin girl, second among four sisters from a typical middle class family, she was like any other girl of our age except for one difference – she had a polio stricken leg. She walked with a prominent limp.. pulling up her dead leg with her hand. I still remember how she used to put her right hand under the knee, lift the leg up like a dead log and put forward.

We were sharp contrast to each other except Read the rest of this entry »

Independence Day - through her eyes

Today, 15th August is our Independence Day. This day will always hold a very special place in my life for myriad reasons. Being born and brought up in the capital city of India, I have been witness to Republic Day parades and Independence Day speeches since my childhood. Sometimes live and other times on TV.
The Rajpath, India Gate, Vijay Chowk, Red Fort, the parades, unfurling of national flag and singing of national anthem.. they always evoke a powerful sense of belonging. They all look like part of my life, a part of my very own place.

Prime Minister standing behind the bulletproof glass protection unfurls the national flag and makes the customary address from the ramparts of the Red Fort. His/her long speeches once again make the customary references and tributes to the nation’s farmers, workers, teachers and the defense personnel and announce the various development schemes.
Oh, my post is not about these annual rituals happening at a national level.

Republic Day

Today morning, fortunately there was an agreement to flip TV channels only between two .. the ongoing India-Aus cricket match and the direct telecast of Republic Day celebrations and we enjoyed both. Today again it was a day to be nostalgic.
I don’t know about other Indians but having spent most of my life in Delhi, I have been witness to Republic Day parades and Independence Day speeches since my childhood. Live and telecast both. And they always hold a very special place in my life for many reasons.

The Rajpath, India Gate, Vijay Chowk, the parades, the jhaanki, the chilly foggy weather, unfurling of national flag, singing of national anthem and the fly past.. they all look part of my life, a part of my very own place. Today also I felt the same emotions and sense of pride running through my veins which I used to feel when I was a little girl and today again I wanted to be in Delhi !!

Won’t write much here. If anybody wants to know how I feel about these days, it’s here, a very nostalgic post written by me.

The Time That was

Yesterday I was feeling very low & suffocated. Don’t know why, but I was terribly missing something. I felt as if something had been drained out of me… I felt some hollowness, emptiness, some void within me. And to avoid that sense of asphyxiation I wanted to be alone with my wandering thoughts.

Generally when it happens I don’t want to be home, I just go out in search of that something which could make me alright in the end. Whether I succeed in getting that ‘something’ or not is a different thing.
I think at some point of time many of us feel like this. It is the need to be with oneself… listen to the inner voice… experience the inner need.

So, I came out, didn’t really know where to go, contemplated to go to Juhu beach to be with the restless and nervous waves… hitting the shores angrily, letting out all the frustrations… again & again & again. I can spend hours watching them and so much feel at home, in my own comfort zone in doing so.

After reaching Ville Parle, another bout of loneliness hit me. The area was so familiar to me that I decided to walk down… remembering my wonderful days when I used to commute daily to this place. I walked on the Station road, crossed McDonalds, the SV road and reached the petrol pump and an instant smile came on my face. :)
I knew I had made a right decision to go there.

From there I could see NMIMS and the number of Xerox shops which, for sometime, had become part of my daily life.. And I smiled again !! . :)

Oh Buoy !

Oh Buoy !! I miss this lady very much. She is my fatso darling. Any guesses where I clicked her or where is she ?
I have enabled the comment moderation this time so you can not see other people’s comments (Clever me). Answer Honestly .. ok ? And no cheating !!

Update:-

Ok, Ladies & Gentlemen,

Time is up. No more guessing.

People went from Switzerland, Paris, Australia, Amsterdam, Antwerp, even Delhi, Bangalore, Goa Carnival to Circus !! Ha Ha.. I could see the anxiety levels going up.

Was it so difficult ? I guess so, but I appreciate your efforts. A BIG thank you to all of you. Though there is no clear winner this time, I would like to mention two names.

I think Beast is the first most intelligent person to try it out. Hmmm.. I need to be more careful next time. :)

And Pijush’s guess was the most closest to the lady… err I meant to the clue. Also, I must appreciate where his eyes went straight to look into. LOL.. Guys are guys after all. ;)

Here is his comment ..

I think this is a rail station on the Germany-Swiss border, because part of the dress(left part of lady) holds the German flag and right circle contains a cross (opposite to Swiss flag in colour). But definitely a wild guess this one as I got no more clue.

Ok, so without wasting time I announce the place. It is Zurich Railway Station, a city in Switzerland but near to German border. The local language is Swiss-German. And yes, it is a landmark of the place, not a part of any carnival.

Hope you enjoyed this quiz as much as I did. ;) Say yes now. Ok ?

Differently Strong

1. A student named John aged 14, jumped off the fifth floor of his school building. He left a five-page note that said he was killing himself because his classmates tormented him with names like gay and teased him for his growing beard so early in life. He had never told his mother about this.
2. Another 13 year old, Minakshi hanged herself with a dog leash in her bedroom. She too left a note for her family. It read: “If I try to get help, it will get worse”.
3. A young boy of seven refuses to go to school and when forced, starts crying.

What do you think these cases could be ?

These are nothing but the cases of bullying.

I think I was also a victim of bullying although Read the rest of this entry »
